Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week was filled with flight resumption between South Korea and Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan Airlines connecting Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur, and Kazakhstan enhancing transit potential.
Air Cargo Trends
South Korea and Kazakhstan to increase the number of flights (source)
● During the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea and the Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, the officials agreed on resuming passenger flights between Astana and Seoul
● Also, they have agreed to increase the number of flights ex Almaty to Seoul VV and connect Shymkent to Seoul and Busan
Turkmenistan Airlines to connect Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur (source)
● Turkmenistan Airlines is set to operate regular passenger flights ex Ashgabat to Kuala Lumpur from 15 March 2024
● The flights will be operated twice a week using Boeing 777-200LR/777-300ER equipment
Tashkent-New York flight increase (source)
● Uzbekistan Airways is set to increase the number of direct passenger flights ex Tashkent to New York to 5 flights per week starting from July 2024
● Currently, the national carrier operates 3 flights per week
Other News
Kazakhstan to increase transit potential (source)
● The Parliament of Kazakhstan approved the intergovernmental agreement with Turkiye, to increase the movement of cargo along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad, Caspian Sea ports, and the international transit corridor connecting Western Europe to Western China
● The primary objective is to elevate the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Türkiye and boost transit capabilities using combined transportation
