Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week, we are reporting on Centrum Air expanding its fleet with its tenth aircraft, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi cutting flights in Central Asia and more.

Centrum Air expanded its fleet with its tenth aircraft
Privately-owned Uzbek airline Centrum Air received its second Airbus A330-300, expanding its total fleet to 10 aircrafts on 10 July 2025
New widebody aircraft will support long-haul expansion to Asia, the Middle East and Europe, complementing existing routes to China, Thailand and South Korea
Kazakhstan signed aviation development plan with ICAO
Kazakhstan signed a civil aviation master plan with ICAO during the visit of ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano, the plan outlines support for the sector’s development from 2026 to 2050
Kazakhstan became the first country in Central Asia and the CIS to sign such a plan, after raising ICAO compliance from 47% to 82%
SCAT Airline launches direct flights to Minsk
Kazakh airline SCAT launched direct regular passenger flights ex Almaty, Kazakhstan to Minsk, Belarus VV on 10 July 2025
Flights operate twice a week, marking the second air connection between Kazakhstan and Belarus
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi suspended several routes in Central Asia and the Caucasus
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi suspended ticket sales to five destinations, including Kutaisi, Georgia from 29 July 2025 and temporarily paused eight more routes, such as Astana and Samarkand, until 1 November 2025
The decision is linked to ongoing engine issues with Pratt & Whitney GTFs and a strategy to reduce flying in regions with high temperatures and poor air quality
Etihad to launch seven new routes focusing on Central Asia and the Caucasus
UAE`s Etihad Airways announced seven new routes starting from March 2026, including Almaty, Baku, Bucharest, Madinah, Tbilisi, Tashkent and Yerevan, with the Madinah route launching earlier in November 2025
The move follows Wizz Air’s exit from Abu Dhabi, UAE and places Etihad in direct competition with Air Arabia Abu Dhabi on several Central Asian and Caucasus routes
TezJet is set to launch direct flights to Moscow
Kyrgyz airline TezJet will launch direct regular passenger flights ex Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to Moscow, Russia VV on 21 August 2025
Flights will operate three times a week using its McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft
China Eastern connects China and Uzbekistan
Chinese carrier China Eastern Airlines operated the first direct passenger flight ex Xi’an, China to Tashkent, Uzbekistan VV on 16 July 2025
Regular flights now operate three times a week using Airbus A320 aircraft

First train from Shanxi to Azerbaijan launched via Trans-Caspian route
Freight train carrying 50 containers of solar equipment left Jinzhong, China for Baku, Azerbaijan via Kazakhstan and the Aktau port
The Trans-Caspian route cuts delivery time and supports future exports to the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe
Uztemiryulkonteyner opened cargo assembly point in China
Uztemiryulkonteyner, logistics subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways, opened a cargo consolidation point in China’s Lanzhou SEZ to support shipments via Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on 8 July 2025
During the visit, agreements were reached to launch pilot trains on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Tajikistan/Turkmenistan route in Q3 2025
