Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week, we are reporting on a new low-cost airline launching in Uzbekistan, My Freighter’s latest cargo route via Tashkent and more.



Air Cargo Trends


New low-cost airline set to launch in Uzbekistan


  • Uzbekistan’s Asia Union Airlines has rebranded as FlyOne Asia after joining Moldova’s FlyOne group, adopting its low-cost business model with a unified Airbus A320/A321 fleet

  • The carrier, already operating daily ex Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Medina, Saudi Arabia flights and plans to expand its network to Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey, Egypt and China with additional aircraft arriving later this year


My Freighter opened new cargo route via Tashkent


  • Uzbekistan-based My Freighter cargo airline has introduced a new scheduled cargo service connecting Shanghai and Amsterdam via Tashkent

  • Flights will operate twice per week using Boeing 767-300F aircraft, with key cargo categories including automotive parts, high-tech equipment, semiconductors, e-commerce goods, and express shipments


Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to boost air connectivity


  • Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to boost air connectivity, allowing up to 238 weekly flights between the two countries

  • The main routes, ex Almaty to Tashkent and ex Astana to Tashkent, may each operate up to 42 flights per week, while other destinations will be limited to 14 weekly flights


Air Astana expands C-Check capabilities


  • Kazakhstan’s largest carrier, Air Astana Group has increased capacity at its Advanced Technical Centre (ATC), which has been able to perform three simultaneous C-checks since April 2025

  • The airline plans to start building two new maintenance hangars in Almaty and Astana in 2026 further boosting efficiency and creating opportunities to service external customers


Air Astana to build engine pool for its Boeing fleet


  • Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, Air Astana, will establish a pool of GEnx-1B engines to support operations of its incoming Boeing 787-9s, which are set to replace the airline’s Boeing 767s within the next 8–12 months

  • The airline already manages a pool of Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines for its Airbus A320neo fleet, helping maintain efficiency despite ongoing engine challenges



Other News

Kazakhstan to modernize railways by 2030


  • Kazakhstan is preparing to modernize 5,000 km of railways and repair 11,000 km by 2030 as part of a major effort to strengthen its role as a Eurasian transit hub

  • The program includes new locomotives, freight wagons and expanded logistics infrastructure to support rising cargo flows along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route


Kyrgyzstan to develop new railway along lake Issyk-Kul


  • Kyrgyz Railways has secured funding from the Eurasian Development Bank for a feasibility study on a 75 km line from Balykchy to Cholpon-Ata, serving Issyk-Kul Airport and northern resorts

  • The project, valued at $500 million, is expected to boost tourism and cargo flows, with long-term plans for further extension along the lake’s southern shore


Kazakhstan partners with Guoyou Wuchan to boost Caspian logistics


  • Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the Mangystau Region have held talks with China’s Guoyou Wuchan Group to attract investment in Caspian Sea ports and rail infrastructure

  • The partnership aims to expand Kazakhstan’s maritime and land transport capacity, reinforcing its role as a key Eurasian logistics hub


Chinese company interested in Tashkent–Samarkand railway project


  • China’s Tianjin Rail Transit Group has expressed interest in participating in Uzbekistan’s rail development projects, including the construction of a new Tashkent–Samarkand railway line

  • The company is also exploring opportunities to reconstruct and expand metro lines, with plans to present proposals after further study of the projects
