This week, we are reporting on Centrum Air’s new Russia–Uzbekistan route, Qanot Sharq’s launch of direct Shanghai flights and more.

AirAsia plans Gulf hub over Central Asia


  • AirAsia plans to open a new hub in the Gulf region by the end of 2025 to strengthen its flight network between Asia and Europe

  • Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are no longer under consideration despite recent and upcoming route launches


Centrum Air connects Russia and Uzbekistan


  • Privately-owned Uzbek airline Centrum Air launched direct passenger flights ex St. Petersburg, Russia to Termez, Uzbekistan VV on 4 July 2025

  • Flights operate one time per week using Airbus A320 aircraft


Qanot Sharq launches direct flights to Shanghai


  • Uzbek airline Qanot Sharq launched direct regular passenger flights ex Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Shanghai, China VV on 3 July 2025

  • Flights operate twice a week using its A330-200 wide-body equipment


China Eastern Airlines approved for regular flights to Uzbekistan


  • China Eastern Airlines has received official approval to launch direct regular passenger flights ex Xi’an, China to Tashkent, Uzbekistan VV on 16 July 2025

  • Flights will be operated seven times a week using A320-251N aircraft


Air China is set to launch direct passenger flights to Tashkent


  • Chinese carrier Air China will launch direct passenger flights ex Beijing, China to Tashkent, Uzbekistan VV on 19 July 2025

  • Flights ex Urumqi, China to Tashkent, Uzbekistan VV will start on 22 July 2025, operating three times per week using Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 aircraft

Azerbaijan Railways is set to expand freight cooperation with China


  • Azerbaijan Railways plans to expand ties with major Chinese companies to modernize its locomotive fleet, enhance training and strengthen East–West cargo routes, including the Lianyungang, China – Baku, Azerbaijan corridor

  • Talks focused on growing freight volumes, port-rail integration and involving China Railway Container Transport Corp. in the Middle Corridor joint venture to boost regional logistics capacity


Turkmenistan joins multimodal transport seminar in Tashkent


  • Turkmenistan’s customs officials joined a regional training on digital trade and multimodal transport under a GIZ-supported project

  • The seminar focused on data harmonization tools to improve cross-border logistics and develop efficient transport corridors in Central Asia
