Air Cargo Trends
Uzbekistan Airways reported annual passenger traffic growth
The airline served 6.612 million passengers and operated over 49,000 flights while recording a 21% decrease in cargo volume to 52,000 tons in 2025
The carrier committed to fleet modernization through agreements for 22 Boeing 787-9 and eight Airbus A321neo aircraft alongside the delivery of one L-410 turboprop
Uzbek cargo airline signed interline agreements with Chinese carriers
My Freighter entered into partnerships with SF Airlines, Loong Air, Juneyao Air, and STARLUX Airlines to facilitate cargo flows ex China to Europe via its Central Asian hub
The agreements expand the airline's global interline network, which already includes cooperation with major operators such as American Airlines, Cargojet and Air Europa
Uzbekistan airports achieved record annual passenger traffic
The country's airports processed 15.504 million passengers and 98,140 tons of cargo while recording 128,970 aircraft movements in 2025
Tashkent International Airport served as the primary gateway with 9.965 million passengers, while the network expanded with the entry of four new carriers including Air China and AirAsia X
Kazakhstan president suggested privatization of national cargo airline
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized the government's decision to task the state railway company with the creation of a cargo carrier and suggested handing the mandate to private entities on 20 January 2026
The state-owned subsidiary KTZ Air Cargo had previously registered to launch operations with three widebody aircraft to leverage transit potential between China and Europe
Air Astana shareholders approved acquisition of widebody aircraft
Air Astana shareholders authorized the conclusion of a contract with Boeing for the purchase of five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with deliveries scheduled between 2032 and 2035
The value of the transaction exceeds 50% of the airline's total assets which were reported at approximately 1.099 trillion tenge ($2.15 billion) in the third quarter of 2025

Uzbekistan and Russia prioritize independent transport network
Russian Trade Representative Konstantin Zlygostev announced a strategy to develop resilient multimodal logistics centers and digitalize customs procedures to minimize external dependencies on 17 January 2026
The plan prioritizes the expansion of the North-South corridor and routes via Kazakhstan while exploring the Trans-Afghan railway project to secure access to South Asian markets
Uzbekistan plans new European logistics corridors
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed diplomats to negotiate a dedicated corridor for Uzbek carriers at the Brest border crossing to facilitate access to Poland on 15 January 2026
Authorities were tasked with establishing a trading house in Constanta and doubling exports to Romania to mitigate rising logistics costs which currently reach up to $9,000 per truck
