Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week, we are reporting on Uzbekistan Airways’ plans to expand its domestic flight schedule, Uzbekistan’s initiative to launch rail cargo services to Europe and more.



Air Cargo Trends


Centrum Air advances toward hub model with new IT system


  • Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air adopts iPort Departure Control System to support transition from point-to-point to a hub-and-spoke model

  • The platform enables through-check for passengers and baggage and will be rolled out across 30+ airports in the coming months


Shymkent airport boosts passenger comfort with capsule hotel


  • New Sleep Mode capsule hotel with 10 single rooms opened in Shymkent International Airport’s (CIT, Kazakhstan) in Terminal A, offering affordable rest for transit passengers

  • Terminal A launched in December 2024 with 5M annual capacity, strengthens Shymkent’s role as a southern hub for flights across CIS, Asia, Middle East and Europe


The construction of Tashkent-Vostochny Airport has been completed


  • The new Tashkent-Vostochny Airport in Uzbekistan spans 561 hectares, featuring a 4 km runway, apron for 20 aircraft, modern hangars and ICAO III-A systems for all-weather operations

  • Equipped with VIP and CIP terminals for official visits and transit, the airport will ease pressure on Tashkent International Airport, boost foreign investment and create new jobs


Uzbekistan Airways updated ticket refund rules


  • The airline removed automatic cancellation of return tickets on round-trip fares, following intervention from the Competition Committee

  • Passengers must now notify in advance if skipping the first leg otherwise, a 100% penalty applies on the unused segment, but the return flight remains valid


Airfares ex Uzbekistan to China dropped after visa-free regime


  • Average ticket prices fell by 44% in one year, with bookings to China rising by 66% thanks to more flights and visa-free entry

  • Demand grew strongly for Beijing (+76%), Shanghai (+23% price drop) and Hangzhou (+82%) while Guangzhou tickets became 50% cheaper


Centrum Air will launch flights to Denmark


  • Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air is set to launch direct regular passenger flights ex Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Copenhagen, Denmark VV on 2 October 2025

  • Flights will operate two times per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays using Airbus A320-200 equipment


Uzbekistan Airways is set to expand domestic flight schedule


  • Uzbekistan’s Uzbekistan Airways will launch direct regular passenger flights ex Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Termiz, Bukhara, Fergana, Navoi and Namangan in September 2025

  • Flights will operate from once to three times per week using Airbus A320 aircraft


Arnasay airfield near Aydarkul received its first aircraft


  • Uzbekistan’s newly built Arnasay airfield in Jizzakh region welcomed its first landing with a CASA C295W military transport aircraft on 23 August 2025

  • The airfield includes a 1.7 km runway, aircraft parking facilities and a terminal designed to become a transport hub for the future Aydar-Arnasay resort complex

Uzbekistan plans to launch rail cargo services to Europe


  • Uzbekistan plans to launch regular rail cargo services to Eastern and Central Europe under a presidential decree on 19 August2025

  • The project, due by April 2026, aims to cut high road freight costs and support fruit, vegetable and textile exporters


Uzbekistan proposes to reduce Middle Corridor freight tariffs


  • President Mirziyoyev proposed to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan reducing cargo tariffs on the Middle Corridor to boost trade and logistics on 22 August 2025

  • Leaders agreed to jointly study expansion of capacity, port modernization, tariff policy and digitalization of cargo procedures
