Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week, we are reporting on Centrum Air launching new flights to Europe, Uzbekistan and Latvia expanding their rail cooperation and more.
Air Cargo Trends
Air transport boosts Uzbekistan’s economy
Air transport directly employs 12,400 people in Uzbekistan and generates nearly US$100 million, while wider economic benefits, including tourism and supply chains, add around US$795 million to GDP and support 128,000 jobs
Uzbekistan’s aviation sector is growing as a transit hub, with expanding cargo volumes, new airport infrastructure, and policy focus on global standards, sustainable aviation fuel, and workforce development
Centrum Air to launch European flights
Uzbekistan’s largest private carrier Centrum Air is set to operate direct passenger flights ex Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Frankfurt, Germany starting 30 March 2026 and to Copenhagen, Denmark starting 31 March 2026
Flights will operate twice weekly on each route using Airbus A321neo aircraft
Central Asian airlines set for IOSA safety audits
Seven carriers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are expected to undergo the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) to strengthen international safety recognition in 2026
Currently six airlines in the region including Air Astana, Qazaq Air, SCAT, Air Traffic Company, Somon Air and Uzbekistan Airways, have passed the audit, while Kyrgyz Avia Traffic has opted not to ren ew its certification
FlyArystan launched new flights to the UAE
Low-cost carrier FlyArystan part of Air Astana Group has launched direct passenger flights ex Aktau, Kazakhstan to Dubai, UAE on 29 November 2025
Flights operate once weekly using Airbus A320 equipment with plans for additional frequencies during peak seasons
Vietjet Qazaqstan plans major fleet expansion
Vietjet Qazaqstan will gradually add 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its fleet between 2026 and 2029, marking a shift from turboprops to jet operations
New jets will start on regional international routes while existing De Havilland Q400 aircraft remain in service for domestic operations
Turkmenistan Airlines joined global air cargo network
Turkmenistan Airlines became a member of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) to strengthen its transit and logistics capabilities
The carrier will leverage its two Airbus A330-200P2F freighters and Ashgabat’s modern cargo terminal to expand international freight operations

Kazakhstan to launch new rail service to Russia
Passenger rail service between Astana, Kazakhstan and Omsk, Russia will begin on 14 December 2025 operating three times a week
The train will feature three sleeper and five reserved-seat cars, carrying around 400 passengers per trip
Uzbekistan and Latvia set to expand rail cooperation
Uzbek rail subsidiary Uztemiryoilkonteyner signed an agreement with Latvian transport company Agmena to provide full terminal and logistics services for container shipments between Latvia and Uzbekistan
The partnership aims to optimize transit flows, reduce empty runs and expand trade volumes, marking the start of broader transport and infrastructure cooperation
