Central Asia emerging as intercontinental air bridge
According to an IATA analytical report released at the end of June 2026, air cargo volumes in Central Asia have more than doubled since 2019, positioning the region as an active logistics corridor linking Europe and China
Kazakhstan remained the primary regional gateway with a 149% volume increase between 2019 and 2024 while Uzbekistan recorded the fastest growth at 182% driven by significant infrastructure investments
Uzbekistan expanded air route network
Uzbekistan's scheduled air route network grew by 11% to reach a total of 206 routes, driven by the launch of 24 new destinations and the resumption of 20 previously suspended flights in 2025
Recent IATA report highlights that 47 airlines now operate scheduled flights to the country, with medium-haul operations accounting for the majority of the significantly transformed aviation network
Middle Eastern carriers launched inaugural flights to Uzbekistan
Middle Eastern carriers Oman Air and Royal Jordanian launched direct passenger flights ex Muscat, Oman and Amman, Jordan to Tashkent, Uzbekistan in early July 2026
The new routes will operate two to three times a week using Boeing 737, Embraer 195-E2 and Airbus A320neo aircraft

China launched a new container railway route ex Xining, China to the Balkan region, Turkmenistan on 28 June 2026
The new route will transit through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan carrying 55 containers of goods with an estimated travel time of 15 days
