Welcome to this week's edition of Uzbekistan Air Cargo Notes, the first and only newsletter focusing on the latest news and insights into the dynamic air cargo market of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. This week, we are reporting on flydubai’s new dedicated freighter link to Almaty, key outcomes from the Central Asia Air Cargo Summit in Tashkent and more. 


Air Cargo Trends


Flydubai starts dedicated freighter operations with Almaty link

  • Flydubai began dedicated cargo operations on 1 October with three Boeing 737-800 freighters wet-leased from SolitAir, each offering up to approximately 23 tonnes of payload capacity.

  • A weekly Almaty–Dubai cargo service is scheduled from 2 October, adding dedicated main-deck capacity between Kazakhstan and the UAE for import and export shipments.


Central Asia Air Cargo Summit brings 340 industry representatives to Tashkent

  • The 30 September–1 October summit brought together 340 representatives from airlines, airports, forwarders, regulators and technology providers, including IATA, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways, Atlas Air and Silk Way West Airlines. 

  • Discussions focused on cargo capacity, multimodal connections, customs modernization and IATA ONE Record, while Tashkent and Navoi airports presented their current cargo-development strategies.


Almaty Airport secures $670 million financing for expansion

  • Almaty International Airport has secured a $670 million financing package led by a Bank of America-arranged syndicate, with the Eurasian Development Bank contributing $100 million.

  • The investment programme includes expansion of the airport’s cargo terminal alongside improvements to airside infrastructure, aircraft de-icing facilities and the domestic terminal.

Uzbekistan expands container fleet for international freight routes

  • Uztemiryulcontainer received a new batch of 40-foot high-cube containers for use on international freight corridors linking Uzbekistan with China, Europe and the CASCA+ network.

  • The company plans to add another 2,000 containers over the next five years, increasing equipment available for export, import and transit shipments from Uzbekistan.
