This week, we are reporting on the resumption of Armenia–Uzbekistan flights after thirty years, upcoming direct routes between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan, and more.

Armenia and Uzbekistan resumed direct flights after 30 years
Armenian carrier Shirak Avia has launched regular passenger flights ex Yerevan, Armenia to Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 2 June restoring a direct air link between the two capitals for the first time since the Soviet era
The new weekly service, operated utilizing Boeing 737 family aircraft, complements the airline's ongoing regional expansion into Central Asia, which also includes recently launched flights to Astana, Kazakhstan on 20 April
Hong Kong and Kazakhstan to launch direct flights
Cathay Pacific has announced plans to launch direct passenger flights ex Hong Kong, China to Almaty, Kazakhstan in the first quarter of 2027, establishing the first and currently only direct air link between Hong Kong and Central Asia
The new route, revealed during a meeting between Kazakh and Hong Kong officials, will operate three times a week utilizing widebody Airbus A330-300 aircraft to enhance connectivity along the Belt and Road initiative
FlyOne Asia to connect Tashkent and Baku
Uzbek carrier FlyOne Asia has announced plans to introduce a new weekly scheduled flight connecting Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Baku, Azerbaijan
The new route will further expand the young airline's growing international network, which currently includes destinations in Russia and Latvia operated using a mix of owned and wet-leased Airbus A320 aircraft from the international FlyOne Group
Varesh Airlines relaunched direct flights between Iran and Tajikistan
Iranian carrier Varesh Airlines resumed direct regular passenger flights ex Tehran, Iran to Dushanbe, Tajikistan VV on 31 May 2026
All flights will be operated using Boeing 737 equipment, the direct air link between Tehran and Dushanbe had been temporarily suspended for nearly three months amid ongoing hostilities in the Middle East region

Kazakhstan and Russia launched autonomous freight route
Kazakhstan and Russia successfully launched their first autonomous cargo route between Astana and Moscow, utilizing AI-equipped KamAZ trucks that can operate continuously without mandatory driver rest periods on 28 May 2026
Following the successful pilot, authorities plan to expand the unmanned transport corridor to the Chinese border to significantly boost regional transit capacity and freight turnover
